Borderless Taste invites you to taste borderless delights in the extreme North-East of Italy, on the Border with Slovenia, between the Karst plateau and its wild and rocky beauties, the blue Adriatic sea and the Natural Reserve of Val Rosandra - Dolina Glinščice until the green gently slopes of Muggia.

Beautiful spots and trails to discover, ancient olive mill traditions and recipes. It’s not just about extra virgin olive oil, it’s about memory, dedication and hard work. It’s the sensory experience you’re looking for.

Your Borderless Taste day includes several activities:

- Guided nature and history visits: from the Karts to Muggia through the Val Rosandra

- History of olive -growing and the habits and customs of the land

- Guided tasting of extra virgin olive oil Trieste with an expert sommelier

- The extra virgin olive oil in the kitchen: our recipes!

 

The visits to the area, on foot, by bicycle or minibus, will be conducted by one of our tour leader.

Nature, Sports, History, Panorama are the 4 thematic paths that you can choose from, each with a different accent, but all starring the extra virgin olive oil of Trieste, its territory and its recipes.

23. November 2014

NATURE & SPORT ROUTE

Borderless Taste gets to the extreme eastern border of the Province of Trieste (and Italy) melting together with the initiative organized on Nov 23rd by the Val Rosandra Dolina Gliščice Natural Reserve: “Far East: Discovering Mount Goli”. A stroll into nature on the occasion of the “National Tree Day” along the path that takes to the Mount Goli through the “Karst freshest meadow”. 


The route moves through woodlands, hay meadows and small areas of Karst environment once prevalent, as evidenced by the name " Goli " which means bald or bare in the Slovene language . At the end of the route towards lunchtime in Gročana-Grozzana we’ll taste some olive oil and find out a nice recipe to prepare to with it. PANORAMA & HISTORICAL

On Fri November 21th we travel by minibus to the panoramic lookout of San Lorenzo – Jezero with an astounding view on the Natural Reserve of Val Rosandra - Dolina Glinščice and then to the ancient olive oil mill of San Dorligo della Valle – Dolina, hosting also a nice exhibition on ancient olive pressing at present. Our guide will tell the story of the valley, crossed by the Via del Sale and up above along the slopes by the ancient railway that once connected Trieste and Venice to Vienna through Istria and Ljubljana.

The route takes you to taste the extra virgin olive oil of Starec in its place of production, Bagnoli della Rosandra - Boljunec, along with the olive oil expert & sommelier Marisa Cepach. Meeting point at 14 p.m. in front of Natural Reserve of Val Rosandra Visit Centre.


8. November 2014

HISTORICAL ROUTE

Together with Vojko Kocjančič, expert on local history, we visit one of the oldest mills in the municipality of San Dorligo della Valle - Dolina, at short distance from the Natural Reserve of Val Rosandra - Dolina Glinščice. Olive growing has ancient roots in this area of the province of Trieste and we discover together its traditions and popular events. 

The route takes you to taste the extra virgin olive oil produced by Zahar at Sant’Antonio in Bosco - Boršt in its place of production, along with its producers and the expert&sommelier Marisa Cepach and shows you a delicious recipe to take home with you. Meeting point at 9 a.m. in front of Natural Reserve of Val Rosandra Visit Centre.


2. November 2014     

PANORAMA & HISTORIC

NATURE ROUTE

The Natural Reserve of Val Rosandra - Dolina Glinščice is a paradise on the outskirts of Trieste to be discovered. The hills around it are today devoted to olive-growing and wine-making. We take you for a stroll crossing the countryside landscape ‘till the rocky slopes of the canyon.

On Sun October 19th we go for a walk in the morning among olive trees and vineyards in the surroundings of the little village of Sant'Antonio in Bosco. We'll taste the extra virgin olive oil produced in this area right among the trees in the countryside while taking a break during the walk. On our table you'll taste five different products by Fiorrosso, Kocjancic, Parovel, Starec and Zahar! Meeting point at the Moccò Festival space "Hribenca" at 10.30.

NATURE & HISTORICAL ROUTE

Borderless Taste takes you to walk in the Natural Reserve of Val Rosandra - Dolina Glinščice, makes you dive in the history, geophysical characteristics, flora and fauna of this natural paradise on the outskirts of Trieste, crossed by a legendary stream and known since time of the Romans.

On Sat October 18th we start our journey in the Borderless Taste! And it'll be a historic one in collaboration with Fincantieri Wärtsilä social club. We'll get back to 1511 at the time of the precious "Salt Route that crossed the Val Rosandra. The route starts at 14.30 in front of the Natural Reserve of Val Rosandra Visit Centre. We'll get to the ruins of the ancient Castle of Muhov and we'll also have the chance to taste some special extra virgin olive oil produced all around the valley.
